From the employer
The Mission
Boston Dynamics is scaling the Atlas humanoid fleet to push the limits of generalist robotics. As we transition to a large-scale fleet, the Controls Reliability Team serves as a Technical Force Multiplier. In this role, you will be an architect for mission-critical failure analysis data pipelines.
What You’ll Do
- Relentlessly Improve Data-quality: Combine high-rate robot telemetry data, fleet-wide diagnostics, and operational metadata, into a robust pipeline for Failure Analysis.
- Software & Tooling Development: Develop automated diagnostic tools to transition the fleet from manual troubleshooting to proactive, automated health monitoring.
- Scalable Diagnostics: Maintain automated diagnostic suites, and other off-robot systems, to provide actionable feedback for hardware and software teams.
- Cross-functional Reporting: Partner with stakeholders, from all levels of the organization, to understand requirements and improve reporting mechanisms.
Who You Are
- Technical Expert: Proficient in Python and SQL, with experience building multi-source pipelines, diagnostic utilities, and automated analysis tools.
- Data Driven: You naturally reach for the data to answer questions or derive new insights. Additionally, you rigorously compare the data to the ground truth.
- Clear Communicator: You excel at translating technical "noise" into structured reports and procedures for diverse engineering and operational partners.
- Technically Fearless: You are motivated by solving ambiguous problems and building novel solutions, across the entire failure reporting and analysis pipeline. Additionally, you are excited by learning about, debugging, and resolving failure modes in the Atlas controls domain.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, ME/EE, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
- At least one year of professional experience in robotics, hardware reliability (SRE), data engineering, or high-level technical support for electromechanical systems.
- Proven experience building and debugging complex systems, using analytics, telemetry logs, and diagnostic tools.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL for system analysis and tool development.
- Experience with data warehousing and visualization tools, such as Snowflake and Looker respectively.
- Familiarity with C++, in the context of real-time embedded systems or robotics.
- Ability to work onsite at our Waltham facility for direct interaction with teams and robots.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Jira, and Jira Automation, for project management, issue tracking, and reporting.
- Experience with Bazel, Google Test infrastructure, Google Cloud Platform and Apache Airflow.
- Understanding of controls theory, electric motors, and embedded systems, or working directly with complex hardware in a lab environment.
- Professional or Project-based Experience with Reinforcement Learning (RL), or working with training datasets for supervised or unsupervised learning.
