What you’ll be part of:

Circle is committed to visibility and stability in everything we do. As we grow as an organization, we're expanding into some of the world's strongest jurisdictions. Speed and efficiency are motivators for our success and our employees live by our company values: High Integrity, Future Forward, Multistakeholder, Mindful, and Driven by Excellence. We have built a flexible work environment where new ideas are encouraged and everyone is a stakeholder.

What you’ll be responsible for:

Circle has made its reputation on being compliant and transparent. That reputation rests on data that is right.

As a Senior Data Engineer at Circle, you'll own the pipelines and data models that our product, treasury, finance, accounting and compliance teams depend on to meet their reporting and regulatory requirements and to run the business day to day. You'll work with large-scale on-chain and internal data and turn it into datasets that people can trust, explain and defend. You'll also have the chance to shape how we think about data reliability, so that the most important information we track is well organized, well monitored, and understandable to the people who rely on it. The right candidate will join a team of passionate engineers who care about data reliability, and your work will support our mission to be a world-class company driven by data. If you have a lot of attention to detail, get bothered when the numbers don't tie together, are excited to learn from our expert finance, accounting and treasury partners, and want to help people understand how our systems really work, we would love to talk to you.

What you'll work on:

  • Partner with product engineering, finance, accounting, treasury, data analytics, and compliance teams to understand how new products and regulations will affect the data we need, and work with them to design the data requirements, models, business logic and pipelines that let us track and verify that we are meeting our obligations.
  • Develop a strong understanding of how the business thinks about its money and its customers' balances, including custody, reserves and reconciliation, and partner with those teams to make the inner workings of our data transparent.
  • Build the frameworks and systems that help us see when something might be going wrong, such as reconciliation, data quality checks, and alerting. Lead the charge to fix the immediate problem, then design solutions that keep it from happening again.
  • Work with on-chain data at scale, ingesting and modeling data from multiple blockchains and handling the realities of that data, such as reorgs, late or missing records and upstream schema changes.
  • Work with analytics and data science colleagues, and with the teams that consume your data, to make sure what you ship is documented, trustworthy and fits how it will be used. Reframe requests into better data products and push back early when a request isn't well scoped.
  • Build scalable automated solutions using SQL, Python, orchestration and transformation tooling, and AI.
  • Review code, models and designs, and mentor junior engineers.
  • Occasionally share your work with larger audiences to educate them on the inner workings of our data and financial systems.

You will aspire to our four core values:

  • Multistakeholder - you have dedication and commitment to our customers, shareholders, employees and families and local communities.
  • Mindful - you seek to be respectful, an active listener and to pay attention to detail.
  • Driven by Excellence - you are driven by our mission and our passion for customer success which means you relentlessly pursue excellence, that you do not tolerate mediocrity and you work intensely to achieve your goals.
  • High Integrity - you seek open and honest communication, and you hold yourself to very high moral and ethical standards. You reject manipulation, dishonesty and intolerance.

What you’ll bring to Circle:

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative or technical field (Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Finance or similar), or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of experience building and operating production data pipelines and models.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python, and experience with a modern data stack: a cloud data warehouse, an orchestrator such as Airflow, and a transformation tool such as dbt.
  • Experience owning a data domain end to end and being the person partners come to when something breaks or needs to change.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain clearly to non-technical audiences how the systems you own and design work.
  • Strong collaboration skills that allow you to make sure that product engineering, data, finance, accounting, treasury and compliance are all on the same page about requirements and expectations.
  • A strong sense of ownership and accountability: when a number looks wrong or a pipeline breaks, you take the lead in triaging it, investigating the root cause and driving it to resolution, and you keep cross-functional partners informed until it is fixed.
  • Experience with blockchain data, financial services, banking or other regulated industries is a plus, but not required.

Starting pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to: relevant experience, skill set, qualifications, and other business and organizational needs. Please note that compensation ranges may differ for candidates in other locations.
